Trekking

Since hiking or trekking is one of my favorite outdoor activities here is a post.

Feb/24/2011 Samuel Lanz and I are headed to Lago Encantada right outside Ushuaia, Argentina. We hiked out to Lago Encantada which was a pleasant hike with about 500 meters of elevation up to treeline with a beautiful mountain lake except for the abandoned beaver pond and dam. The day was the windiest yet in South America sometimes it was hard to stay on our feet. We decided not to camp but go over to Tempano where there is a large glacier, the hike was through a nice stand of large Nothofagus pumilio then up on the rocks and about treeline once again. We got to the upper lake that was a glacial grey green colour with one Flying Steamer Duck diving in it. As we walked around the lake at one point there was an furoucious gust of wind that sent small pebbles and sand flying through the air and pelting us in our exposed faces and hands. We walked up to the glacier drank some refreshing water falling off it and explored the amazing rocks around the area before heading down to the river to camp. On our way down there was one large about 1 meter in diameter that fell over the trail since we walked on it just a few hours before. There was also many smaller trees and branches littering the forest floor.
